Primary Bath Suite in a 1912 Pasadena Craftsman
A gut renovation of an original bathroom in a historic Craftsman, with a curbless shower, heated floors and period-appropriate fixtures.

- Final cost
- $52,000
- Duration
- 5 weeks of construction
- Size
- 115 sq ft, curbless shower and freestanding tub
- Permits
- Pasadena Permit Center, permitted and inspected
SCOPE OF WORK
- Full demolition to studs and subfloor
- Curbless shower with a fully waterproofed, sloped pan
- Heated tile floor and niche lighting
- Freestanding tub with floor-mounted filler
- New supply and drain lines replacing galvanized pipe
- Correctly sized exhaust ventilation
WHAT WE RAN INTO
The subfloor had rotted under the original shower pan and the joists below it were compromised. We sistered the joists, replaced the subfloor, and rebuilt the waterproofing assembly from scratch before any tile went in.
THE RESULT
A bathroom that reads as original to the house and a shower pan that was flood-tested before a single tile was set.
